Funding Opportunities
Grants
It is through our funding opportunities where our work really pays off. As mentioned previously, our membership votes on two large service projects once every two years. Our next major grant review will be in the spring of 2012 for our 2012-2013 grant cycle. If you would like to apply for a major grant please email the club first to see we are accepting applications.
We also offer Zonta Mini-Grants (maximum grant size is $2500.00). These grants are awarded once each year, the grant deadline is April 1. For questions about our grants, please email us.

Awards
The Status of Women Committee of the Zonta Club of Traverse City is proud to carry out Zonta’s mission of improving the status of women. The committee fulfills its mission by recognizing certain women for their achievements and awarding various scholarships to young women throughout the biennium.
One award presented by the Status of Women committee is the Outstanding Woman Leader Award. The award is given to recognize a woman who has, through her work or her volunteer efforts, improved the status of women in her community.
Each Biennium the Committee awards one scholarship for a girl age 12-14 to attend the NASA Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. The committee believes that experiencing the life of an astronaut will encourage girls to explore careers in math and science.
The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is presented each year to a young woman aged 16-20 who has demonstrated leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. It is a cash award intended to encourage young women to pursue careers in government, public policy and community organizations. The winner at the Traverse City club level has the opportunity to be considered for additional cash awards at the national and international levels of Zonta International.
Young women in junior high are eligible to apply for the committee’s Inland Seas Scholarship held in the summer each year. This two-day program combines the adventure of sailing with the discovery of Great Lakes science, again exposing young women to exciting careers in science and math.
In conjunction with the local American Legion Auxiliary, the Status of Women Committee awards an annual scholarship so that a high school girl may attend “Girls State” at Michigan State University. This is a week long mock government program that teaches invaluable leadership skills to the young women to attend.
Our most recent addition to our awards lineup is the summer Youth Scholarship held at Michigan Technology University in Houghton, Michigan.
In summary, the Status of Women Committee of the Traverse City Zonta Club is committed to promoting the status of women by providing opportunities for young women to pursue certain areas of study and recognizing women who have made a difference in the lives of others in our community. All of our cash awards currently total over $8000 per biennium.
