Young Women in Public Affairs Award Applications Available
Applications for the 2011 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are now available from the Zonta of Traverse City.
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s (age 16-20) commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community and the problems limiting the advancement of the status of women in their own country and worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow.
The Zonta Club of Traverse City will award $1000 to the young woman who best demonstrates the following criteria:
- Evidence of active commitment to volunteerism.
- Evidence of volunteer leadership achievements.
- Evidence of international awareness
- Evidence of dedication to advancing the status of women worldwide
The local recipient application will be submitted to Zonta International for consideration of additional scholarship awards.

Applicants must be pre-university or pre-college students (age 16-20).
The Traverse City chapter of Zonta was chartered in 1956. Over the years Zonta has participated in many area services projects that benefit the Traverse City area.
Zonta International, with world headquarters in Chicago, IL, USA, is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International. The Award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation.
