Zonta Club of Traverse City members: Peg Jonkhoff and Arlene Nelson

Two local Zonta members were honored Friday night, January 28, at the 2011 TC Chamber of Commerce Dinner. Peg Jonkhoff, past president of Zonta Club of TC, was formally recognized as the 2011 Chairperson of the TC Chamber Board. Peg will serve as the leader of a twenty-member Chamber Board of Directors and 1200 local members/business owners. Peg said she was very honored to be named as chair. She also had the thrill of creating the video that announced the 2010 Distinguished Service Award. This is always a highlight of the evening and a well kept secret. Peg said in the video that the recipients were a couple who had traveled not only in the region, but all over the country and world helping their fellow man. They have been residents in the area since 1947 and greatly involved in the Cherry Festival in many capacities. Wes and Arlene Nelson received their award with their family at their side. Wes is a member of Rotary and has just recently returned from Nepal working on a village water system. Arlene has been a member of Zonta since 1988 and has worked tirelessly to uphold the Zonta mission of improving the status of women worldwide. The members of Zonta are proud of their sisters: Peg Jonkhoff and Arlene Nelson.
