Forensic Science

This is a scholarship offered to students entering 9th-11th grade in the Fall of 2012 who are interested in the Science and Technology fields.

The Forensic Science and CSI class teaches students how forensic scientists solve crimes through DNA analysis, blood-typing, and splatter analysis, hair and fiber analysis, and facial reconstruction. They will examine bones and tooth impressions and work in a team to investigate and solve a mock crime scene. The Forensic Science Camp is held at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan.

The Zonta Club of Traverse City will award this $795 week-long scholarship and up to $250 for travel expenses to a student who best meets the following criteria:
    

  • Must be completing 8th grade by June 2012
  • Must have one letter of recommendation from a science or math teacher, a school counselor, or a school principal
  • Must submit a written essay on “Why I am interested in Forensic Science”
. (Essay should be between 300-500 words)
